Lorton Walgreens Construction Update

Store to open before Thanksgiving.

Construction on the Walgreens at the corner of Lorton Road and Richmond Highway is nearing completion.

Work on the two-level, 14,144 square-foot store began in May, and will be finished next month. There will be a pharmacy, and the upper level will be used for storage.

"I'm turning it over to them October 15, and the store should be open before Thanksgiving," said Site Supervisor Tony Mandato, of Black Diamond Group, LLC. "This is a [built to last] hundred-year building. Walgreens, when they build things, want as little maintenance to work on as possible. We've got more concrete, heavier steel, we've got overkill on everything here."

Mandato is also overseeing the construction of Walgreens stores in Richmond and in Cheverly, Md. "Five months is extremely fast for construction, especially with a two-story location," said Mandato. "I chalk it up to good planning."

The site is currently advertising an available bank pad with a drive-thru next door to the Walgreens.
