Lorton Photos of the Day: Wounded Warriors Work Out at Belvoir

They're getting ready for the 2012 Warrior Games

Today, more than Fort Belvoir received more than 60 wounded, ill and injured soldiers and Army veterans from across the country today. The soldiers are training and competing for 50 places in the Army Warrior Games field and track team. The games will be held from April 30 - May 5 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Not every athlete on the field had a visible injury. "A lot of injuries are invisible, like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic brain injuries," said Erich Langer, a public affairs officer with the Wounded Warrior Regiment. "Some run with prosthetics that are skin toned."

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Shane Savage has two Purple Hearts and has been deployed to war zones five times. "I thought I wouldn't get through the metal detector at the airport since this was my first flight since my last surgery," he said. "I was blown up in 06', 08' and 10'."
