Lorton Man Robbed at Gunpoint on Evening Walk Home
The incident occurred in the area of Sheffield Village Lane and Sheffield Green Way.
An 18-year-old Lorton man was allegedly struck with a gun and robbed while walking home Tuesday night, July 31, by two suspects in the area of Sheffield Village Lane and Sheffield Green Way, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The victim was approached at around 10 p.m. by two men, and one of them allegedly displayed a handgun. The armed suspect hit the victim with the gun and both suspects fled the scene with the victim's backpack and cell phone. The victim received minor injuries.
Fairfax County Police offered vague descriptions of the suspects. They are described as black males between the ages of 17 and 20 years old, weighing between 130 and 200 pounds and both had black hair and brown eyes.
"Whenever a weapon is involved or displayed in a crime, some victims get so focused on the weapon that they no longer see anything else around them," said Fairfax County Police spokesman Eddy Azcarate.

I can recommend some excellent training if the young victim would like to learn to use a handgun for self-defense.

Thanks for your comment, T. The only problem I see with that scenario is a gunfight, resulting in injuries and possibly death.

James, that's a (remote) possibility. Research has shown that the more likely outcome is that display of a defensive firearm is most likely to cause the perpetrator to leave. It's unlikely the defensive firearm would need to be fired.
But if it were -- think about it. Someone is threatening a person with deadly force. Even the Dalai Lama, a paragon of peaceful living, has noted "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun."
To do otherwise is to allow rule by thuggery. Our history has shown mankind is not best served by that concept.

If we may believe it - self defense - in the oriental arts of several kinds and the willingness of the the victim to use them quickly can(?) disarm the criminal and bring the situation to an end. Yes, if there is someone else to take the criminal in hand, i.e., police. Yes?
