Local Groups Make Their Mark During the Holidays - Part 1

Franconia District Station Food Drive
The officers of the Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department hope to fill one of their Cruiser Wagons with goods for local food banks. Donations of non-perishable food items are being accepted through December 20.
Citizens may bring donations to the Franconia District Station lobby, 6121 Franconia Road in Springfield, anytime day or night. Those who can't make it to the station may donate at these additional sites:
- Lorton Library 9520 Richmond Hwy. Lorton, VA;
- Wilton Woods Community, 6022 Florence Lane, Alexandria;
- Greenspring Retirement Community, 7410 Spring Village Drive, Springfield;
- Lansdowne Community, 8000 Morningview Lane, Alexandria;
- Bren Mar Community, 6233 Indian Run Pkwy. Alexandria;
In addition, officers will be taking the Wagon to local businesses to collect food donations:

Lorton Community Action Center's Holiday Outreach
According to Maryam Ulomi, director of emergency services for Lorton Community Action Center, LCAC's Holidays program is the organization's largest annual outreach.
With the support of individuals, houses of worship, businesses and schools, LCAC is collecting $20 grocery store/food gift cards for families in need.
LCAC also provides gifts for children under the age of 18 and for senior citizens. Suggested gifts are listed here. All items must be new and unwrapped. LCAC also asks that you please include batteries as appropriate and write the value of all gift certificates on the envelopes.
Gifts will be collected on Saturday, December 18, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at The Moose Lodge, 9612 Fernedge Lane (off of Richmond Highway) in Lorton.

Simple Changes Therapeutic Riding Center
Monetary donations to Simple Changes help fund all aspects of the work to improve the lives of individuals with physical, emotional and developmental disabilities. For example:

A special collection is being taken in December to pay the medical bills for one of Simple Changes' beloved horses. Yogi Bear is recovering from a stifle (knee) injury.
