The student votes have been tallied, and the mascot for the South County Middle School is... The Mustangs.
The Mustangs will carry the students to South County High School, where they will become South County Stallions.
Nearly 800 rising seventh and eighth graders were asked to look at three choices. Here's the turnout:
Mustangs: 375 votes
Colts: 337 votes
Broncos: 72 votes
"I think it's great. It continues with our horse theme in South County and helps establish a unique identity for the middle school," said Middle School Assistant Principal Gordon Stokes. "I don't know about having a statue, but I can see kids making a choice with how we should represent the mascot."
Incidentally, Patch recently conducted a poll on the naming of the mascot. Check out the results.
Middle School Open House
South County Middle School will hold an open house on June 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All students, parents and members of the community are welcome.

They know, don't they, that a mustang is a wild, unbranded horse. In other words, an unowned horse.
At least back in the early years of the 20th Century and earlier. The plains indians rode mustangs!
