gee, and to think people were afraid of the Deptartment of Correctlons and ultimately forced its closing - now we have more crimes without the Reformatory/Workhouse.
Lorton is still a dangerous place to have a home. Seems to me there should be many more sales of security equipment now.

I disagree. These crimes are misdemeanors. That hardly qualifies as dangerous. I l ived in Lorton for 5 years and loving it!

Lorton is not great, but it's not that bad either. Things are looking up ... Wegman's/Hilltop Town Center, new Lyndham Hill development, some transportation improvements. I think there is a lot of room for improvement ... 7 year Lorton resident.

I've been here from 1954 to now. It was very rural, back then. Hagel Circle had at least one minor crime each evening/night. For a while we even had a Fairfax County police presence in a small empty shop. Two officers on bicycles patrolled the whole area. After a while, they gave up and left. The new (then) grocery store was not a place to get a few items. There was a railing to show where the street ended and the sidewalk began. There were usually young men or teenagers perched on the railings and adding comments to whomever decided to go into the grocery. The store closed not long after the comments became rather "un-nice". Hagel Circle and Williamsburg Square had drug problems. A few shootings and fights. Kept the police busy most evenings. It has been quiet. The police reports have more reports much like the old ones.
I hope Wegman's new store will not have problems. My other hope is that the store will be completed soon.
